Name’s Fred. I’m a 21-year-old donkey, and before you ask, no, I’m probably not going to do anything just because you asked nicely. I came from auction back in 2019, and I’ve spent every year since then perfecting the art of doing things my way. If you’ve ever been out at the rescue and heard a loud brey echoing across the entire property, that was probably me. I’ve got opinions, and I’m not shy about sharing them. I also like talking to people… especially if they happen to have snacks or are willing to listen to my complaints about whatever inconvenience I’m dealing with that day. Now let’s address the other thing I’m famous for: escaping. Humans call me an “escape artist.” I call it problem solving. If there’s a gate latch, I can figure out, I probably will. Honestly, if you didn’t want me opening it, maybe you should’ve designed it better. Health-wise, I’ve had some trouble with white line disease before, which donkeys can be prone to, but as long as the humans catch it quickly and treat it right away, I do just fine. I’m also a cryptorchid, which can make me a little extra difficult when mares are in season. And by “a little,” I mean everybody usually knows exactly when I’ve decided to be dramatic about it. I’ve come a long way since arriving at the rescue, but I still need consistent handling to stay a proper citizen. I’m smart, stubborn, and always testing boundaries just to see if the rules are really rules. I’m available for adoption and sponsorship, but whoever takes me on better have a sense of humor… and maybe a backup lock for the gate.
