Hi there… my name is Mayflower. I’m a 15year-old Paint/Dun cross mare, and while I’m very sweet these days, I wasn’t always so sure about people. Before coming to Lucky Clover in October of 2023, I had quite a journey. A stable took me in from a different rescue when I was completely feral and pregnant. Back then, trusting humans felt impossible, and surviving was all I really knew how to do. But the people there were patient with me. They gave me time, kindness, and space to figure things out in my own way. Eventually, they decided a sanctuary life would suit me best, and that’s how I found my way here. I still carry pieces of that old life with me. If I don’t know you very well, I can be a little hard to catch. Trust is something I give carefully. But if you’re gentle and patient, I’ll usually come around… especially if you happen to have jellybeans or sweet treats. Those tend to help quite a bit. My back sways a little as I’ve gotten older, so I carry my weight differently than other horses, but it doesn’t stop me from enjoying the peaceful life I’ve earned. After spending years as a broodmare in previous homes, retirement fits me just fine. These days I much prefer sunny pasture naps, quiet companionship, and people who don’t ask too much of me too quickly.
